Especia...Hi Tony,
I realld enjoyed readingyour post. Especially the intro takes the long pending development in IT management from the funny side.

The business case of manual system management for "every day tasks" is just obsolete. Automation however is still quite underdeveloped in most software packages. Even the ones you mentioned as "newS mostly look at process automation and not automation of the actual "doing".

I have been working (as the architect) on an automation engine. Out goal was to automate most manual tasks as far as possible. If you are interested in the idea behind this enine you may check my personal blog at www.hcboos.net. Or to get an overview you may want to look at this post. We have started designing the engine roughly 12 years ago and have reached an average degree of automation of >50% even for highly speciallized applications (number of incidents handled without human intervention). So far we have been using the technology to offer our own service. As I read more and more about automation on the Web, I figured it would be time to join the discussion and opened up my Blog

You also touch upon a pretty scary topic for most IT professionals today. They WILL (an this is only a question of when) lose their GOD status. In my oppinion the ones who cope with that today, will be the real IT gurus with excellent jobs. The job description of people who cannot change their mind set will sooner or late boil down to genator. I wrote a post about the The Scocial Impact of Automation - if you are interested in further detail.

Best Regards
ChrisChris Booshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16288854406113663407noreply@blogger.com
